Obituary for Dewey Barker

Dewey R. Barker, of Aberdeen, Maryland, passed away on October 19, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. His earthly walk was 81 years and now his heavenly walk will be for all eternity with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dewey was born in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Dewey P. Barker and Laura Barker. The eldest of three children, Dewey graduated High School with a class of eighteen. He continued his education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and a master’s degree from George Washington University.

Dewey moved to Maryland to work for Bethlehem Steel and soon thereafter married his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Jane Barker. Dewey loved the water and water skiing, making Maryland an ideal home as he slalom skied on the Bush River until the end of his life. He was an avid adventurer and loved spending time with his family. He took his grandchildren on adventures throughout the western United States, camping, hiking, and four wheeling through breath taking landscapes.

Dewey’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He served as an Elder at Mountain Christian Church and was active in church growth and bible studies. Dewey’s love for nature was evident by his beautiful gardens that he meticulously manicured and were the delight of his neighbors.

Dewey was preceded in death by his father Dewey P. Barker, his mother Laura Barker, and his brother James Barker. Dewey was survived by his wife Mary Jane Fleishman Barker; his daughters Natalie Eberius and her husband William Eberius and Amy Willig and her husband Jeffrey Willig; his sister Elizabeth Hollrah and her husband Jack Hollrah and nephews Curtis and Ashley Hollrah; his grandchildren David Eberius, Rachel Blatnick and her husband Brandon Blatnick, Cisco Cummings, Adam Eberius, and Megan Eberius.

A memorial service will be held at Mountain Christian Church in Cook Auditorium, 1824 Mountain Rd Joppa, MD 21085 on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 2pm, fellowship gathering to follow at 3pm in Timothy Hall. Donations may be made in his memory to Mountain Christian Church
