Ernest had so many special people in his life to include the Monford family from Texas, the Comb’s family from Cape May NJ, Lamancusa, Kimmel, Watchinsky, Moretz, Murray, Bohanan, Palmere, Santana, Bomar, Greason, Cullison and Dorn families from Maryland. Ernie had so many important people in his life so please do not be offended if your name was not mentioned here, please forgive us for any names that we may have left off.

Ernest Anderson was born in Memphis, Tennessee to George F. Anderson Sr. and Lena V. Anderson on December 25, 1946. He went to school at Alvin High School in Texas where he played baseball with the great Nolan Ryan. One of the best pitchers of all time knew Ernest! Ernest met and married his love Connie Anderson in Galveston, Texas at St. Mary’s Cathedral. After his Coast Guard career, he went on to get his AA degree in computer science at UMBC.

Ernest was proud of his 30 years of military service, HONORABLE SERVICE in the USCG. He completed his final tour and chose to stay in Maryland. At the end of his thirty years, he attained the rank of CWO4 (Chief Warrant Officer Four). He was also working to be the best at everything he did in life such as additional schooling in the service like Marine Safety, Unit Safety Supervisor, River Tank Barge Operations, Introduction to Towboat, Tank Barge Operations and Criminal Law Investigation. Ernest was very decorated as well. He achieved the National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, CG Bicentennial Unit Commendation Ribbon, Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement and Cutterman Insignia. He served and joined USCG Texas, duty stations consisted of Guam (USA), NY, NJ, CA, FL, MD, TX, as well as other states, but these were the main ones. He was only 17 years old when he joined the Coast Guard. The Anderson family was a military family. His last duty station happened to be in MD in 1989. Then years later, Chris, Corey and EJ met their wives in Maryland.

Ernest had many hobbies. He loved coaching his sons. He coached Little League in Cape May, NJ for his son Chris. He coached his boys in football and baseball in Orange County, CA and then coached the three boys in Pop Warner Football at K-Land. He also coached Corey in baseball and his 12U team won the state of Florida. Ernie was the head coach of that team and he was proud of it! He also coached his youngest son EJ’s football team, The Edgewood Steelers. He coached EJ in football and baseball as well. He was the Edgewood High school Football Boosters President at one point. He coached many kids in the Edgewood baseball and football program.

Here is a short Story about Ernie. He always made sure his three boys were involved in sports. He felt that it would keep them out of trouble and help mold them into good young men along with the discipline at home. He would get up every day at 3am to be at work early, by doing so he could leave earlier in the day to be home in time to get the kids to their practices. They lived in a rough area outside of base housing in South Dade, Miami. Ernie chose to drive an extra 30 minutes each way with tolls so they could play for a good football program in Florida at K-Land Park where he coached football and baseball. In MD, Ernie coached a lot of kids in the Edgewood baseball and football programs. He loved working with kids, he had an uncanny ability as a Coach to see talent where other people may not. He felt where there was a Will there was a way to get better! He has made a difference in so many kids, he loved to coach!

He loved to take the whole family driving across country when it was time to move on to the next duty station in the Coast Guard. He would map out two weeks of travel and drive the two cars with CB radios to communicate between the Station Wagon and S-10 Truck. This happened when they were living in Cape May NJ and had to travel to Lakewood California. Years later they had traveled from California to Florida across country taking the scenic routes. He would map out all sightseeing locations in route and sometimes off the beaten path to make sure the family experienced and visited those destinations for Memories. Some of the sites they saw were the Grand Canyon, Yosemite Park, Petrified Forest, Yellow Stone to name a few. Many nights staying in motels across the US. So many more parks and monuments, impossible to list them all. By the time the family ended up in MD in 1989, they had driven through most states in the U.S. They visited family along the way in Arkansas, Michigan, and Texas too and always loved seeing them. They had so many great memories on those trips!

He loved his boys, his wife, and he could not get enough of his GRANDKIDS. They were his world! He would do anything he could for his grandbabies. And his grandbabies loved him so! Ernie lit up when he knew he would see them all. He was such a great and honorable man!

Ernest was so proud of his achievements in the military and coaching… but his greatest achievement was being a great father and husband and most importantly to him, POP POP!
