Obituary for Gary Garcia

Gary Louis Garcia, 72, of Easton, MD, passed away on August 16, 2020 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD from a massive stroke.

Gary was born in the fall of 1947 in Buffalo, NY. He was the son of the late Ferdinand and Mary (Siepierska) Garcia. As a young child with a very curious mind, Gary developed a wide range of skills. One of his projects at the age of 16 was building his own motorboat and traveling the Erie Canal to the New York World’s Fair in 1964. Never idle, he restored cars and homes while creating furniture and distinctive millwork among many other pursuits.

A graduate of RIT in mechanical engineering, Gary enjoyed a fruitful career designing valve components for a variety of applications for Wright Components, his own company Alpha Fluid, and G.W. Lisk. He is the holder of numerous patents. Gary was an engineer’s engineer and could always be counted on to devise novel solutions for complex engineering problems.

Gary was the father of two daughters, Dawn George (Lee) and Jennifer. Gary was also the proud grandfather of Logan and Cameron George. Spending time with his family was always the highlight of his life.
Gary loved the water and owned a number of boats over the years taking frequent boat trips with his family on the Finger Lakes each summer. He lived on Seneca Lake in New York state after moving there from Newark, NY. Later in life Gary also enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Having a deep love of dogs, Gary was never without at least one dog companion. Reggie, his extra special yellow lab, was Gary’s once in a lifetime canine friend.

Gary gave his time and heart to the Rock Steady Boxing Program at the YMCA where he worked one-on-one with those diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Gary was always generous with his friends and family – helping them with countless projects, lending them his tools or time.

Surviving family members include sisters Joy (Calvin) Culver, Lynn (Dan) Barufaldi, Ellen Schwegler, Lisa (Nitin) Karkhanis, numerous nieces and nephews, Godfather Uncle Edward Koczanowski, and his former wife, Kathy Cook. Gary was predeceased by his brother-in-law James Schwegler and his grandnephew, Owen Culver.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Talbot Humane Society, Rock Steady Boxing program at The YMCA of the Chesapeake, The Vasculitis Foundation (earmarked for Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis research) or The American Stroke Foundation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
