Obituary for Theodore Jones

Theodore Charles Reid Jones was born on November 9, 1939, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, the devoted and loving husband of Olga Spears Jones. He departed this life and entered eternal rest at 8:28 am August 17, 2020 at Casey House Montgomery Hospice, Rockville, Maryland. Theodore graduated from Amherst College and the University of Washington from which he was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy degree. His research paper was entitled,” Genetic Control of Basal Levels of Alkaline Phosphatase in Echerichia Coli.” Theodore taught at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts and Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He accepted a position at the Environmental Protection Agency as a biologist/programmer and received numerous awards while working at EPA. He was also President of Blacks In Government.

Ted loved to play Bid Whist and chess from which he received an award and trophy respectively.

Ted loved to play the oboe and the guitar. He liked to watch old movies, look at You Tube videos, research science topics, watch the news, and swing dance. Theodore will be remembered as a gentle soul and a person with a kind heart.

Theodore is survived by his daughter, Emily D. Powell, Frederick, Maryland; son, Steven M. Jones, Rockville,
Maryland; son-in-law, Terry Powell, Frederick, MD; step-children, Kirsten A. Jones, Mount Laurel, NJ; Justin S. Mason, Columbia, MD; step daughter-in-law, Nichole Mason, Columbia, MD; step-grandchildren, Taylor Mason, Germantown, MD; Aliya, Lauren and Michelle Mason, Columbia, MD; Telana Jones and Myles Matthews, Mount, Laurel, NJ; sisters, Ann Chambers, Mount Laurel, NJ; Virginia Dillingham, Pittsburg, PA; Marvin Jones, Tabernacle, NJ; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private.
